all you can see is me

Photobucket

a couple weeks ago i rented a ring flash. i had (and still have) no idea what i was doing with it. still fun though. this is a test shot -- i'll post some images from the actual shoot soon.

i saw it in your face

i used to do this thing where i'd make everybody i meet take a polaroid picture and sign it. i haven't for a while now, but the other night i went looking through those old shots and i sort of wished i'd never stopped. i turned to my friend and asked him to pose three times.

no one even knows i'm here

i found this picture in a box full of things i planned to throw away. i'm glad i saw it and thought to save it. i don't know why i would have wanted to get rid of it in the first place. it's weird how the photographs we make can feel like worthless mistakes one day and beautiful images the next.

where it ends, in the night

the impossible project film seems to be getting better. (or maybe i'm getting better at using it.) here are a couple shots taken with the latest black and white film they have on offer -- as usual, these were shot with an sx-70.

i just forgot what they told me

Photobucket

i've been in a meditative mind space about photography for a while now. i'm not sure if i'm in that space because i've been flipping through collections of work by other photographers -- cindy sherman, robert mapplethorpe, nan goldin -- or if i've been flipping through their work because i'm in that space. either way, i've been thinking a lot about what makes a photograph art. what elevates an image. i haven't really figured that out. still, i keep coming back to the feeling that i need to be more deliberate about the photographs i make.

all of this is a long way of saying i've recommitted to film. last weekend, i picked up a canon ae-1 (my other 35 mm doesn't have a working light meter). the photo above is one of the first test shots i took with it. i've always really loved analog -- medium format and polaroid images are all over this blog -- but digital has been my go-to. this summer, i'm going to try to shake that up some.
