i just forgot what they told me

Photobucket

i've been in a meditative mind space about photography for a while now. i'm not sure if i'm in that space because i've been flipping through collections of work by other photographers -- cindy sherman, robert mapplethorpe, nan goldin -- or if i've been flipping through their work because i'm in that space. either way, i've been thinking a lot about what makes a photograph art. what elevates an image. i haven't really figured that out. still, i keep coming back to the feeling that i need to be more deliberate about the photographs i make.

all of this is a long way of saying i've recommitted to film. last weekend, i picked up a canon ae-1 (my other 35 mm doesn't have a working light meter). the photo above is one of the first test shots i took with it. i've always really loved analog -- medium format and polaroid images are all over this blog -- but digital has been my go-to. this summer, i'm going to try to shake that up some.

Oh, I didn't know you actually bought an AE-1. How much did it cost? I've been wanting to get one for a while, too! I love this picture!
